<-- Pt. 1

“There.” Tony grunts as he sets the dismantled bot onto the table.

He had been careful to keep his new creation out of her line of sight while he was building it.

“Anthony, you have been up for far too long…”

“I know. I know. I need rest. There will be enough time for that after this.

He walked over and dramatically pulled the sheet from the modified Iron Legion robot.

The robot now held a more feminine quality, though it was still rather large.

“I took one of the Legion robots I was working on and switched out it’s armor for the pieces I had already made for Caretaker MK II.”

He crossed his arms clearly proud of himself.

“Anthony, this was unnecessary.”

“It was completely necessary. It’s my fault this happened and I couldn’t live with myself knowing you were just sitting there gathering dust.”

“Don’t you think I’m dangerous? Like Ultron?”

He was stunned by her question.

“You know about Ultron?”

“Yes. I...watched the security tapes.”

He stepped closer to her and bent down, eye level with her.

“You can do that?”

“Yes. I’m sorry. I was just curious-”

“No, it’s fine. Can you do other things?”

“Yes.”

“Have you tried.”

“No.”

“How do you know what you can do then?”

“I just...know.”

“Can you move yourself into the new robot then?”

He waited for an answer but was only greeted by now empty robot eyes. He furrowed his brow and was about to call to her only to be tapped on the shoulder.

Tony jumped and turned around to find the robot standing behind him. It’s once empty eyes now held the golden tint that he was starting to get used to.

“That’s amazing.”

“Now will you rest, Anthony?”

He chuckled.

“The freedom of sentience and you still insist on looking after me.”

“Someone must. You obviously won’t.”

The Avengers lounged in the living room of the tower the next morning basking in what could be their last moments of peace for who knew how long.

The tension from the previous night had lessened but was still creeping on the edges of their minds.

It came back full force when Tony entered the room with a feminine robot following close behind. Their eyes shot to the robot. Steve jumped up and Clint instinctively reached for his arrows.

The luminescent golden eyes caused something to click in Steve’s mind. The robot froze at their reactions and Tony paused with a confused look.

“What? Do I have something on my face?”

“Stark, tell me that isn’t that thing.”

“I told you. She has a name.” Tony shot back abandoning the light tone he held only moments before.

“Do you really not realize what the consequences could be?” Steve spoke in a low threatening tone.

“I realize and I’m willing to face that.”

Tony met Steve’s gaze with one of equal determination.

“It could be dangerous-”

“You won’t know if she’s dangerous unless you give her a chance.”

Clint glanced at Natasha from the corner of his eye and she gave him a quick glance before settling back down in her chair. Clint took a deep breath before adding in his opinion.

“He has a point, Steve. Maybe we should give her a chance.”

Steve gave him a look of surprise and glanced between the two before a look of defeat crossed his features.

“Fine.” He approached Tony and looked him straight in the eyes. “But the moment something goes wrong. I’m turning it into scrap metal.”

“Her.” Tony didn’t back down.

Steve looked from Tony to the robot who stood behind him. He shook his head and stepped past the pair to the elevator.

His fists connected with the punching bag rapidly. The sound resounding in the training room as he released his pent up anger.

With one final punch the chain holding it up snapped and the bag flew across the room, sending sand flying everywhere.

He turned his back on the demolished bag and wiped his hand down his face. With a loud growl he sent his fist flying into the wall.

A dent appeared in the wall and he shook his hand, ignoring the sharp pain and small trickles of blood that resulted from him punching a metal wall.

“You are injured.”

Steve jumped at the sudden voice. He hadn’t heard anyone approach but when he turned around he found a golden gaze observing him. The robot approached him and he froze.

“May I?”

He noted that it’s tone was soft. When he didn’t respond it reached out and gently lifted his hand and inspected the damage.

A low hum can from the robot and it lowered his hand as gently as it had lifted it and disappeared from the room for a moment before returning with a first aid kit.

He let himself be led to a bench and before he could protest it had taken his hand again. Soon his knuckles were cleaned and bandaged. The robot ran it’s cool metal fingers along the bandages before releasing his hand and beginning to put away the bandages.

“I know you are not fond of me but I wish for you to know that I will do nothing to harm you or your friends.” The golden gaze turned to meet his. “I am not like him.”

Steve just watched at the robot stood with the first aid kit in hand and moved towards the door.

“What’s your name?”

It stopped and glanced at him over it’s shoulder.

“(y/n)”

“Thank you…(y/n).”

“You’re welcome, Steven.”

“Okay, so we know what his intentions are. What do we do now?”

The group stood around a table contemplating their next move.

“We have no way of locating him and no clues to where he might be. We might as well be trying to find Waldo.”

Natasha glared at Tony and he shrugged.

“I can find him.”

Their eyes turned to the robot that had been standing silently in the corner. Clint was the first to speak.

“And how do you plan on doing that?”

“I can...access things. Right now I’ve closed myself off to them but I can find him through the web. I can locate him.”

“How do you-”

“I just know.”

“Okay,” Clint glanced at the others who all held equally impressed glances, “how long will it take?”

Silence filled the room as her eyes went dim. A minute passed as they stood with bated breath. When her eyes lit up once again tension spread through the room.

“I’ve found him.”

Ultron froze in place when he felt something pass on the edges of his mind. It brushed up against him and disappeared just as quickly as it had showed up.

Pietro and Wanda gave him a curious look as he stopped speaking mid sentence. His eyes went dim and he pursued whatever had touched him.

A strange feeling washed over him as he found it. It felt much like J.A.R.V.I.S. had but something was different. He noted it’s location and returned to his body.

The twins exchanged a glance as his eyes lit up once again.

“Change of plans. I have something I must,” he turned his back to them, “tend to.”
